OUR STORY

Once upon a time...

over the river and through the woods... Rebecca and Miha met in a fairytale town with a castle and an island in the middle of a small crystal clear Alpine lake.

...well actually, it was in Radovljica, two towns away from Bled in April 2009.

Rebecca had been studying Slovenian in Ljulbjana, Slovenia on an ancestry scholarship since September 2008, living in a Ljubljana dormitory, and traveling Europe. Her roommate, Lara, at the time invited Rebecca to her (then) boyfriend, Jaka's, neck of the woods just north of Ljubljana– Radovljica. Jaka had to substitute DJ for a friend at their local watering hole, so after a full day of touring castles and hills of the area, the 3 hung out at "Ta Star Tenis" with Jaka's friends.

Rebecca struck up a conversation with Boštjan, who had just returned from traveling India. They were exchanging travel stories when Miha noticed his best friend, who had a girlfriend at the time, was talking to a pretty girl. Miha had just gotten back the day before from traveling in Southeast Asia. He came to Tenis to see his friends, so he didn't hesitate to join Boštjan's conversation...

...4 hours later, Miha and Rebecca were still talking. The other friends were heading home, so Miha said he'd be back the next day if Rebecca would still be in town. (Rebecca swears he winked as he said goodbye, but Miha claims to this day he just had dry contacts.) The following night the couple clicked, and Miha promised a kremšnita if Rebecca returned to Bled.

Their relationship blossomed with palačinke at Cafe Romeo in Ljubljana (1st date); a horse burger and getting lost in Tivoli Park while a bear was on the loose (2nd date); and an under-the-castle bonfire along with a visit to Metelkova (3rd "date").

Now Rebecca and Miha have enjoyed over 5 years together traveling the world and making new friends.

Some Q&A

Why do we call each other "Schatzo"?

Rebecca was in Nuremberg, Germany visiting her friend, Astrid Crocker (a German married to an American living in Cleveland). Miha, sending the daily "goodnight message", wrote "guten nacht schatzi". Astrid translated, Rebecca liked it, and it stuck. It's evolved into "schatz", "schatzo", "schatzels", "schmatz"... But we avoid using this nickname in Germany, because the literal translation in German is "my little treasure".

What do we love?

Hiking, skiing, the outdoors, traveling, backpacking, exploring, photography, horse riding, making new friends, watching movies, cooking, juicing, hosting dinners, having Skype dinners, wine tasting, art, history, making plans, and each other.
